The Divisions of Play:
We follow the guidelines developed by MYSA
in assigning players to their level of play. The cut off date
for birthdays is August 1st. For example, children
in Under 6 (U6) must be 4 by Aug 1, 2006 but cannot be older
than 6 on August 1, 2006. U8 children must be 6 by August 1 and
no older the 8 on August 1, 2006.
Children in the U6 (under 6yrs) division
meet on Sundays for 1 hour. They participate in age appropriate
skill development activities. Eventually they scrimmage in a
non results oriented atmosphere.
Players in the U8 (under 8 yrs) division
practice one day a week and play an hour long game on Sunday
afternoon. Teams are co-ed and the children play 4 vs. 4.
There are no goalies. Again, emphasis is on skill development
as well as an introduction to team play. Score is not
officially kept and good sportsmanship and teamwork is
emphasized.
In the U10 (under 10 yrs) group, there are
boy and girl teams. It is expected that there will be two boy
and two girl teams. The kids play 6 vs. 6 with a goalie. This
is a non-competitive division. The teams play half of the games
here in Plympton and travel locally for the remaining games.
Usually these teams practice 1 – 2 times a week and play a game
on Saturdays.
The U12 (under 12 yrs) division is the
first results oriented level of soccer. Players in this
division compete in the highly competitive Coastal Youth Soccer
League with a chance to play in the Mass. Tournament of
Champions Cup in Amherst MA. One U12 team from the CYSL will
represent the league. Players play 7 v7 with a goalie.
Under 14 is when the children step on to
the big field and play 11 vs. 11. This is the first year
Plympton is fielding a boys team at this level and we hope to do
so for the girls when the numbers are available.
Players in the U16 and older will play for
PKH (Pembroke, Kingston, Halifax). This is a regional team in
which traditionally Plympton Children have participated. Since
most of these players play for High Schools, this is a spring
time only league.
The Coaches:
Currently all of our Head Coaches have
received their “G” level license from MYSA. Many intend on
continuing to coach as their children age and will work towards
Their “F” and “E” license. It is not a requirement to have
played soccer to coach. We are a recreational league and
willingness to help and enthusiasm are most important. The “G”
level course is a four hour introduction to the basics of
coaching soccer. It really is a lot of fun and quite helpful.
CORI checks:
As required by state law and MYSA, ALL
coaches, league officials, and referees have been CORI
checked.
Volunteering:
Plympton Soccer is grateful for the many
people who step forward to help out. We can always use more.
From lining the field, snack table, refereeing, coaching, and
administration there is a place for anyone interested in giving
time.
Donations:
Plympton Soccer operates on its
registration fees, local business sponsors and donations from
families and community members. Every dollar collected goes
directly to the operational expenses of the league. Some
families are unable to make a time commitment and offer a
donation of money to the league. If you are a business owner or
community member and would like to make a donation, please
contact us or mail it to PYSA, PO Box 44, Plympton, MA 02367.
Indoor
Soccer
Winter indoor soccer teams are
not affiliated with Plympton Youth Soccer. Often, a current
coach will organize a group of players to continue skill
development by playing in an indoor winter soccer league. Among
the local facilities are the JunglePlex in Plymouth, South Shore
Field House in Pembroke and the Bridgewater Sports Complex. The
organizers of these teams are under no obligation to include
players on Plympton Youth Soccer rosters. However, it is
encourage by PYSA for coaches to include all interested for
future skill development.
