The Divisions of Play:
We follow the guidelines developed by MYSA in assigning players to their level of play. The cut off date for birthdays is August 1st. Children are their playing age for the next season on Aug 1. For example, if you are seven on August 1st and turn eight in September, you are still playing as a seven year old and would be in the U8 division.
Children in the U6 (under 6yrs) division meet on Sundays for 1 hour. They participate in age appropriate skill development activities. Eventually they scrimmage in a non results oriented atmosphere.
Players in the U8 (under 8 yrs) division practice one day a week and play an hour long game on Sunday afternoon. Teams are co-ed and the children play 4 vs. 4. There are no goalies. Again, emphasis is on skill development as well as an introduction to team play. Score is not officially kept and good sportsmanship and teamwork is emphasized.
In the U10 (under 10 yrs) group, there are boy and girl teams. It is expected that there will be two boy and two girl teams. The kids play 6 vs. 6 with a goalie. This is a non-competitive division. The teams play half of the games here in Plympton and travel locally for the remaining games. Usually these teams practice 1 – 2 times a week and play a game on Saturdays.
The U12 (under 12 yrs) division is the first results oriented level of soccer. Players in this division compete in the highly competitive Coastal Youth Soccer League with a chance to play in the Mass. Tournament of Champions Cup in Amherst MA. One U12 team from the CYSL will represent the league. Players play 7 v7 with a goalie.
Under 14 is when the children step on to the big field and play 11 vs. 11. This is the first year Plympton is fielding a boys team at this level and we hope to do so for the girls when the numbers are available.
Players in the U16 and older will play for Silver Lake Youth Soccer (Plympton, Kingston, and Halifax). This is a regional team in which traditionally Plympton Children have participated. Since most of these players play for High Schools, this is a spring time only league.
